Curt Watts
National Council Member - Army

Curt, a Gold Legacy Life Member of the Ollie O. Dykes Post 2027 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, was sworn in as the National Council Member for Oklahoma at the 123rd National Convention in Kansas City, MO. on 21 July 2022 for the 2022-2026 term. He earned his VFW eligibility while serving in Afghanistan in 2006 & 2007 during Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as a National Council Member from 2021-2022 and served as the Department of Oklahoma Adjutant/Quartermaster from 2017 to 2022. He is currently serving as the Department Quartermaster. He, along with two other VFW Oklahoma members, served as the originators of the Oklahoma VFW Foundation and he currently serves as its President. He is an All-American Department Quartermaster for 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2022-2023. He has served in numerous positions within the VFW to include State Adjutant, Quartermaster, Judge Advocate, & Chief of Staff. He has served as Post Commander, Post Sr. Vice Commander, Post Jr. Vice Commander, and Trustee and has been appointed to numerous National Committees. 

 

Curt retired from the U.S. Army in February 2009 as a First Sergeant with 31 years accumulative service. Upon retirement, he worked as a contractor in Saudi Arabia for five years to include time with Northrop Grumman Aviation Arabia as a Project Manager.

 

Curt’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (5), Army Commendation Medal (4) Army Achievement Medal (3), Good Conduct Medal (6) Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star (2nd Award), NATO Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is a recipient of the "Order of Saint Maurice" from the National Infantry Association, plus earned the Expert Infantry Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the German Schutzenschnur Marksmanship Badge and other medals & ribbons.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Workforce Education (cum laude)) from Southern Illinois University and was granted membership into the Golden Key National Honor Society in 1998. He is a current member of the National Association of Parliamentarians where he obtained his Registered Parliamentarian certificate. Curt currently resides in South Logan County, Oklahoma outside of Guthrie with his wife Elizabeth Sharon Watts. His goal is to serve and assist veterans, treat others with kindness and respect, and maintain his Christian faith.
